Numerical study of the formation and stability of a pair of particles of different sizes in inertial microfluidics

The formation of pairs and trains particles in inertial microfluidics is an important consideration for device design applications, such as particle focusing separation. We study the stability linear staggered nearly rigid spherical different sizes a pressure-driven flow through straight duct with rectangular cross section under mild inertia. An in-house lattice-Boltzmann-immersed-boundary-finite-element code used three-dimensional simulations. find that properties heterogeneous strongly depend on their size ratio, while also determined by initial lateral position axial order particles. Our findings imply perturbations trajectories caused other particles, they are expected to happen even dilute suspensions, can be stable microfluidics.
